Getting console access to a switch, router, or firewall should be simple. Unfortunately, it rarely is when you grab the wrong cable. Different vendors use different console port types. On top of that, modern laptops have removed the legacy ports that older cables relied on. Fortunately, the Blue Cable Co® Console Cable range covers all of it, six cables for the most common console connections in Australian data centres and comms rooms.
The CAB-CONSOLE-USB-RJ45 is the go-to for most Cisco and compatible devices. It is a 1.8m USB-A to RJ45 cable with a built-in FTDI chip. As a result, it gives reliable plug-and-play compatibility across Windows, Mac, and Linux, no drivers needed. The CAB-CONSOLE-RJ45, on the other hand, uses a DB9 RS-232 to RJ45 connection. It suits environments where a serial port is still in use. Together, both cables cover the traditional RJ45 console port found on most network gear.
For Cisco devices with a USB console port, the CAB-CONSOLE-USB-BCC handles the job. Specifically, it is a direct compatible replacement for the Cisco CAB-CONSOLE-USB. It connects USB-A to 5-pin Mini-USB-B and suits the Cisco Catalyst 9500 series and other switches using that format. However, if your device uses a USB-C console port instead, the CAB-CONSOLE-USB-C-BCC is the right choice. It is compatible with devices like the Cisco Catalyst C1300, C1300X, and Cisco Secure Firewall 1200 Series. In short, it is a 2m USB-C to USB-C cable built for that specific connection.
The two HPE Aruba cables round out the range. The R9J32A-BCC is a 1.8m USB-A to USB-C cable and a direct compatible replacement for the OEM HPE Aruba R9J32A in a more practical rack-friendly length. Similarly, the R9J33A-BCC does the same for the HPE Aruba R9J33A at 2m. Both support plug-and-play console access at 115200 bps with 8N1 settings. Furthermore, no drivers are needed on Windows, Linux, or Mac. They are designed for Aruba CX Series switches, including the 6000, 6100, 6200, 6300, and 8360.
Finally, all six cables carry the Blue Cable Co® 5-Year Advanced Warranty. They are available now through our authorised Australian distributors, XS Network Tech and IP Trading.
